Honoring a special invitation from the Schubert Club, Beatrice Grant, Nita Qiu, and Austin Frohmader performed in the Master Class of the international pianist, Angela Hewitt. The class was held last Wednesday, January 30th, in the beautiful Guild Hall of the Plymouth Congregational Church, downtown Minneapolis. It was a fulfilling afternoon. Beatrice offered the Finale of Beethoven's Sonata in A Major, Opus 2, No. 2; Nita performed the first movement of Chopin's Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Opus 58; and Austin played Ravel's Jeux d'eau. All three of our wonderful apprentices played beautifully and received a very warm and enthusiastic response from the audience. The hearty Minnesotans in attendance were surprisingly large in number as they braved the minus 52 degree windchill. Ms. Hewitt was warm, gracious, and very positive in sharing her vast musical knowledge and experience with our students and the enthusiastic music lovers in attendance. It was a very worthwhile experience for all of us!
